If you had to pick between these two great schools, which one would you choose and why?
I have many colleges that I am applying to, but I don't want to go overboard. So, I have to choose between applying to either Emory or Vassar.

If you’re only choosing between two schools - there’s not a whole lot of difference between applying to 10 schools and applying to 11 schools. One more school doesn’t make a big difference, so I’d apply to both of them, personally. They both have qualities that make them attractive - Emory’s location in a metropolitan area, the beautiful campus, all the facilities and amenities that it has (I lived 20-25 minutes from Emory for about 10 years) are very attractive. However, Vassar is also in a nice location (Poughkeepsie is a great suburban town - I lived about 1 hour south of Poughkeepsie for years and used to travel there to shop); it’s a great school with a great name, it has really interesting and accomplished students and it’s a small liberal arts college. I went to a SLAC for undergrad and I loved it.

I’d apply to both.

Thanks for the advice, juillet. I just might apply to both schools. But because I have not visited the two schools and probably won’t be able to before I send my applications, I want to know the pros and cons of both schools and which one of the two other students at CC would pick.

Bump…
Bump…

In my opinion, it’s like your trying to compare apples and oranges.
They are both excellent schools…Vassar is a small liberal arts college in a suburban town in New York while Emory is in Buckhead, basically Atlanta. You’ll find more diversity in Atlanta, as opposed to Poughkeepsie but you might get a better experience at Vassar, because of very small class sizes and an opportunity to know your professors better and your classmates. Emory on the other hard will have more research opportunities and more people you can meet, along with a greek life that vassar won’t have. The weather in both places is completely opposite and alot of your decision should really depend on your major…

Emory for me. In 5 years, become the newest housewive of Atlanta. ;-)

So you’re going to college to get your MRS?

Bleck.

Vassar has a gorgeous campus. Have not been to Emory. My son is a freshman and loves it there so far. He has met people from everywhere.

Thanks for the responses! I know that they are very different schools, but I just wanted to see which one of the two you would choose. I wanted to get more insight on a small, liberal arts colleges and a medium-sized, research university.

Vassar is a very liberal school compared to Emory. If you go visit both campus you find there is a huge difference in type of student population. Go visit both and I think your decision will be much easier.
