college2332- how do you feel ab. vandy? and are you a girl?

hey hilary,

Im a guy and i love it. The people are incredibly down to earth, the campus is nice, and i have friends from all across the country. I wouldn't change school for anything.

Well pretty much, I study from the time I get of class 'till I go out at nights. Yes we have our share of lame/nerdy people but a lot of us go out and party to different houses like "the sailing house" or "the soccer house" and you just have a good time, if you're into drinking, then you'll find plenty there and if you're not, you can just have a good time. I'm doing pretty good in school while having a good time, I like W&M though because there isn't an abundance of parties to the point where I will be too distracted to not do any of my work.

William and Mary has one of the sweetest names for a college.

W+M and Swarthmore sound so cool esp if you use a sophisticated tone haha.

--

btw, the two girls i know both enjoy W+M and they are both in sororities

haha

yeahh i like all these schools i think i would be really happy at any of them

1 more thing: when i visited vanderbilt i really liked it when i was there but some people have told me its snobby and people always dress up for football games, etc. have you had this experience at all?

i rarely dress up for football games and its not a big deal at all if you dont want to. some people bring dates which I have done a few times which i thought was cool.

some kids dress well and since the campus as a whole is attractive (especially the girls) its easy to make the assumption that the kids are snobby but it couldnt be further from the truth. Im from NY and the kids here are much nicer. When you walk by strangers people will say hi to you -- this was completely a foreign concept to me. The first time it happened I actually looked behind me because I thought the girl was talking to someone else. People are careful to hold doors for each other and there is a certain politeness that I didn't even knew existed til I came to TN.
The student body is preppy in comparison to other schools [esp a few of the frats] but they are approachable. People commonly make the assumption that because people dress a certain way that they are going to be mean or something. I am independent and half my friends are Greek and half arent. There is no tension between Greeks and non-Greeks which is not the case at other schools. Rites of spring was also the best weekend of my life. jus relaxin -- tossing the frisbee listening to live bands and hangin out with your friends. Robert Randolph is coming this year. Also some 90s bands like Cake and Hootie and the Blowfish. Last year, I saw Busta Rhymes, The Wailers, Maroon 5, Better Than Ezra, Tonic, Coolio all on campus. i could go on and on cause I love it here, I wish I could freeze time or something -- its going to be pretty sad to leave.

if u have another other questions, let me know

Just thought I'd add my two cents here - daughter is at William and Mary and absolutely loves it. She is VERY social, but also wanted to a challenge academically. She is out of state, btw. She also had a large scholarship offer from Vandy, which she seriously considered. Both schools are absolutely beautiful! Daughter felt that Vandy was too wealthy - girls were very southern - much preppier than at W & M. When she looked at the cars in the sorority parking lots - at Vandy, there were lots of BMWs and such. She felt that the students at W & M were more serious about their academic interests than at Vandy. She loved the professors and administrators at both schools - but she felt like W & M had the balance of social and academic she was looking for. She is very involved in activities and you can find everything socially at either school. W & M has many students that don't get their nails done, don't wear make-up every day, don't have a car. She did not find this at Vandy. I think she could have been very happy at either school though - you just need to visit and talk to lots of students.

I don't study very much at all at W&M except when tests are coming, and I do fine. I do like 1 hr of work a night. Some people do do like 6 though.

Not so for everyone though, some guy just wrote a letter to a campus paper complaining that he works so hard after transfering here from another school with a 4.0 gpa and here he gets a 2.2.

I like to hang out with friends on the weekend rather than drinking, but a good number of my friends do drink and they have no trouble finding where to go.
