Emphasis on Class Rank

Hello everyone,

I am an REA applicant to Notre Dame for the Class of 2024. So I saw on the website that ND cares a lot about class rank, but my school unfortunately doesn’t rank. I used to go to a traditional high school (where I was ranked 16/509) and moved to a high school without any ranking, but my grades dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.89. My SAT scores are a 1580 composite (no superscore), and I take extremely rigorous college courses at the new school I attend (I am essentially a dual-enrolled high school student taking classes at a four year university, NOT a community college). We do not offer weighted GPAs or a rank, so I’m curious as to how ND would evaluate me, as they say that many of their students are at the top of the pack. Can anyone shed some light on how admissions works for students without ranking at ND?

Thank you!!

Don’t know the particulars at ND, but as over 50% of high schools don’t report rank anymore, you are in good company.

ND will be able to assess an applicant’s rigor and GPA in the context of their class based on the info in the applicant’s high school profile. If that doesn’t give enough insight, ND might estimate rank or call the GC…our HS’s GCs do know rank even though it’s not reported.

Good luck.

@PathophysiologyFTW Notre Dame and other national universities will review your application in the context of your High School. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has a good understanding of your academic performance in relation to your peers, class rank therefore is not required if your High School does not provide that information on their transcripts or counselor report. Best of luck and success!
