Encouraged to apply?

How many of you received a letter in about May and/or December from Harvard asking you to consider Harvard and to apply? Does this mean anything, or do they just send it to pretty much anyone with decent PSATs?

Also, over the summer (August, I think) the Harvard admissions office called my house and asked me if I had any particular questions about Harvard, and just to talk. Again, how many of you were called on the phone and encouraged to apply? Does this mean anything? It really made my day (my week, really), but I don't know what to make of it exactly.

They only send out about 100,000 of those.

What about the phone call, though?

So I'm guessing that is a good thing :)

student workers do those. Seriously, it means you have good stats on one test or another. It has nothing to do with your actual application chances.

I was called. That was cool. My chances are like, zip, but it was still cool.
