Energy Drinks

What are your thoughts?

I’ve tried using energy drinks for help staying up late to study for an exam, but they just don’t work for me. They actually have the opposite effect. My hands get shaky and cant focus on what i am doing for long periods at a time. Ive only drank about a 16 fluid oz can of Monster a few times. They taste okay, but I’d much rather drink a power aid or flavored water. I also won’t drink more then a can at a time because there has been several kids on news lately that have died from drinking too many at once.

Has anybody tried 5 hour energy shots or anything else?

Coffee? Caffine pills? Yerba Mate tea?

I don’t like coffee or tea. And pills scare me. :-S

Hmm. Maybe eat more fruit, like apples? Take a cold shower at night, maybe go for a run or walk? A nap in the afternoon, maybe.

Coffee is probably the only thing of that type that works and isn’t bad for you. Energy drinks have like 50-70g of sugar which is horrible for your health. Never tried 5 hour energy but it supposedly works and would be less detrimental to your body

Have you tried iced coffee? There’s different flavors that are really good. I think it taste better than regular hot coffee.

Energy drinks are SO bad for you. Not only the sugar, but there is so much caffeine in those things. What about flavored iced tea? I’m not the biggest fan of regular iced tea, but the Snapple peach kind the the best! Soda with caffeine in it? It actually doesn’t have that much caffeine in it, but I find drinking a cold fizzy drink helps me. I drink diet coke in the morning instead of coffee or tea lol.

Thanks for the advice everybody  I was more wondering what effect energy drinks had on everybody else, though.

I don’t drink energy drinks :\

Oh, I was inspired to make this post because I just bought one thinking “it might not help me study, but maybe it will help me do something physical.” Wrong. Have a headache and still shaky. I’m supposed to be paid to clean house for a friend while she’s at work, but just unmotivated to do anything. I just looked at the clock and was like WOAH an hour has already passed??

That doesn’t sound too enjoyable :\ Maybe drink them slower, and keep hydrated! And maybe soon find a new alternative

Energy drinks are, based on what everybody tells me, bad for your health. I think the reason they make you shaky is because of all the caffeine they have. They have a similar effect on me!

I really like coffee, but you said you don’t. My brother used to dislike coffee, but he makes it iced with hazelnut creamer (you can buy like a Bailey’s bottle of flavored creamer at the grocery store), and it completely masks the taste of coffee. If you like Nutella, it kind of tastes like a watered down Nutella. You should maybe try it! They have different flavors too, like caramel or french vanilla. A cold shower also wakes me up when I’m pulling an all-nighter. That or I jump rope for ten minutes or so. I guess you could try jumping jacks. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s this thing where you drink coffee and immediately fall asleep for twenty minutes. When you wake up, you feel really refreshed. I only tried it once, but I felt a difference.

Sorry so much of my advice has to do with coffee. That’s my staying-up-aid, basically. Never tried 5 hour energy. I assume it’s not good for you? I heard you crash after those five hours.

Just don’t try like Adderall if you’re not prescribed for it. It’s so easily available at my school, but as far as I can tell, that stuff is really bad for you.

Good luck with your exams!

5 hour energy works but I dilute it with water since it tastes bitter straight

Well, I used to drink energy drinks to stay awake for long hours during the night, ie red bull.

But, in reality I guess is counterproductive because your focus level goes down significantly. So one basically is staring in front of book without retaining information.

btw i love twenty one pilots omg

@stomaestro hey me too!! And same with my school about the adderall. Except they don’t use it to stay up late studying with haha

UPDATE :it’s 3:00am and I think I can see sound. JK not literally but I am too amped to sleep.
Dear Monster energy drink,
thanks for the delayed reaction. MUUUUCH appreciated.
From: most likely going to work as a zombie tomorrow morning

Coffee never wakes me up. It makes me feel jittery but tired at the same time.

Recently tea has worked great for me. Not bag tea, but like real tea leaves. My mom brought them back from China or something lol. It’s weird because tea has less caffeine than coffee but wakes me up so much more. Usually it’s enough to get me through a long night.

I started using 5-hour energy last year and I love it. I’ve only used maybe 9-10 bottles total throughout last school year, though. I only use it when I’m studying really late (until 3-5 am or all nighters). I also used it once during the school day after I pulled an all nighter. I’m a relatively introverted person but drinking 5-hour energy makes me super talkative as well for some reason haha, my friends were like wth is wrong with you today?

However, I wouldn’t recommend 5-hour energy and energy shots for regular use. Stick with a more diluted caffeine source, like coffee or tea. Only use energy shots when absolutely necessary, or else you will become numb to it and the awesome effects will not work anymore.

Oh yeah, also, after drinking an energy shot, make sure to drink a lot of water. Energy shots have little water content (it’s mostly just acids and chemicals) so water will make it more fluid and travel faster in your body so that you see the effects more quickly.

Coffee is much safer than energy drinks, even though caffeine isn’t healthy. Energy drinks can be very dangerous, and addictive! I’m not sure how safe five-hour energy is, although I’ve heard it works well.
