My upcoming freshman daughter is considering applying for the Engaged Living program. She’s talked to a couple of current students who said EL is great especially if you are a Health Science major, but that she will be living away from most of the other freshmen on campus . . . Any advice or input appreciated!
I wouldn’t recommend doing it. Living in South Housing is one of the best parts freshman year, and they put all of the engaged living students in lakeside. From what I gathered from my friends they felt like Furman is small enough that you can easily make friends and plug yourself into a community without being forced into a group. Each engaged living group does their first year writing seminar together. The options for FYWs are so broad that I would’ve hated being placed in one automatically without seeing all of the course offerings.
