Considering visitation weekend is in a week, that's either really bad news or really good news. Could be that you're under consideration for a fellowship or you are a borderline admit. There are no waitlists typically.

Well we will see in a week. I just hope that they didn't just dig out my application from under a pile of documents and submit to the committee right now lol. Thanks for the info!!

btw how do you like the structural program there??

That's also a possible scenario. I remember last year, admissions was very disorganized. it wasn't uncommon for the faculty to tell others they were still under consideration when in reality they couldn't find their file. Anyways, I like it here. Don't necessarily love it, but I do like the people and experience thus far. As with anything, there are ups and downs..=). PM me your aim or general questions if you have additional questions.

I have been accepted at MIT. wHOOOO HOOOOO!

I cant believe I got in.

congratz!!
judging by your name you are doing EE right?

Electricalnerd: Are you EE?? Were you accepted off the wait list, or did you just get a bizarrely late notice?

Sorry for responding so late. Yes I am EE and I got a call from the department. I don't think I was on the waiting list but you never know.

I only applied to Virginia Tech's Engineering Science and Mechanics department for a direct PhD and was accepted. I'll be working on a problem from my last internship company for my PhD research. The company is sponsoring part of the degree and I'm thinking I'll probably get a full fellowship to sponsor the rest once I meet with faculty and submit a program plan to the fellowship. Until then it sounds like I'm TA-ing in the fall.

two days b4 open house, i finally got accepted into stanford's structural program!! all these waiting... the letter was sent out 2 weeks ago! wonder why it took so long to arrive, but no words on fundings yet. Now, which school would be a better school for structural engineering, berkeley or stanford?? I will be going to both school's open house with that question in mind... and hopefully i will have the decision by april 15...

Congrats. Do you have funding from Berkeley? That should probably be the overriding factor. If either school has given you a travel voucher, that should be indicative of a good chance of funding.

I don't have funding from Berkeley... yet. Stanford says financial package will be available by 3/31 and Berkeley says by 4/1, so hopefully i will get some soon. you are right, stanford will be very expensive to me if i don't get anything and i don't want to be in 60k debt by the time i get out. :/

by travel voucher you mean they compensate my travel expense? then no, i just got invited to their visitation day like everybody else.

Hi,

I was accepted into the EE PhD programs at Umich and Texas A&M. I noticed the issue of funding was being dicussed. I do have some questions about this....any insights from others would be helpful. I've been informally told at both programs funding should work out for me. Do any of these top schools not fund EE PhD students? Any stories about how things didn't work out for funding? Anybody from these two schools in a similar position right now?

Berkeley is number one when it comes to civil eng'g - structural. so if you get funding from berkeley, it should then be your number one choice. congrats on your acceptances!

electricalnerd,
did your brother hear from any other colleges for NE?

Blah2009, were you one of the grad students who had lunch with us on visitation day?? the grad student amy sat at my table

Has anybody heard from MIT civil/structural yet? If so, did you receive notification through e-mail, mail, or both? Thanks!
