I was looking at other sites, and some people argued that undergrad engineers have the opportunity of going to (a top) law school (obviously with high LSATs/GPA), is this true? Does anyone know if it's possible to go to a good undergrad engineering school, then go to a good law school? I'm a rising senior in high school, and I'm just exploring all possible options.
Thanks

Whatever your undergraduate major is, you can go to law school. Only specifically law-related majors are singled out as being disadvantageous.

It’s often said that schools will consider the difficulty of the major while evaluating an applicant’s GPA. Even if this is true, the consideration is thought not to be commensurate with the associated differences in difficulty that inspire the “compensating” consideration. In that sense, majoring in engineering may hurt your chances – but only insofar as majoring in engineering lowers your GPA.

Ok thanks, that’s what I was looking for. So would you argue that at a school such as Cornell College of Engineering (my aspiration as of now) if I had a lower than average GPA (but still a high rank at the college I hope!), I would have a worse chance at a top law school?

By the way, read your SAT/ACT guides, they helped me so much!
Thanks

Being in circumstances that lead to a lower GPA (and majoring in engineering at Cornell would probably qualify) will probably hurt you, but the aforementioned amount of contextual consideration will mitigate the damage. In order to get a better sense of the extent to which that consideration would help your case, you’d need to talk to a law school admissions officer. (Plus, the situation likely varies from law school to law school.)

Whatever the cases, majoring in what you want to is a valuable rule of thumb; just be conscious of your GPA.

Happy to help.

Yeah I see what you’re saying, law school still isn’t my goal as of now, but I still wanted to see if it was an option with my planned course of action if you will in undergrad.
Thanks again, and let’s just hope it all works out haha!

Law schools accept any major for the most part. If you enjoyed engineering although you might want to seriously consider Intellectual Property Law.
