Engineering at Lehigh

So i just got in, and was wondering about lehigh's engineering dept. i also got into bc gw and colgate, but they all have relatively weak engineering programs. hows lehigh's?

Lehigh was always known primarily as an engineering school. They were even known as The Engineers before their mascot changed to the Mountain Hawk. More recently, along with many other private universities, Lehigh has expanded to offer more programs to appeal to a wider variety of students.

When people hear “Lehigh”, they think engineering. That’s been my experience when telling people that I’m interested in Lehigh.

i agree. the thing is that im not sure i want to major in engineering, and if i went to lehigh’s school of engineering (where i got accepted), there’d really be no backing out. if i went somewhere like colgate, gw, or tufts (havent heard back yet), they all have great non-engineering science programs. no? thanks

So, if you don’t want to major in engineering do you have any idea which direction you would like to go? Lehigh does have other colleges to choose from (Arts and Sciences, Business Economics and Education) besides engineering.

right, but engineering is lehigh’s strength by far. idk, probably some science, but id really have to try things out first

lehigh’s business school is top ranked as well

You aren’t locked into engineering just because you were accepted into the PC Rossin School. You can transfer to the College of Arts and Sciences after your first year – maybe sooner, although I don’t know this. In engineering, you’ll be taking stuff such as Calculus and Physics which will benefit you in other sciences should you decide to move on.

The biology department is supposedly quite good, as in the English department. Believe it or not, the CAS is more difficult to get into than the engineering or business schools (if you leave out the special programs such as IBE, which are extremely competitive) because of the number of applications. Most students at Lehigh are NOT in the engineering school. Only about 400 students out of a first-year class of roughly 1200 enroll in PC Rossin.

Oh, and to answer the OP, Lehigh’s engineering program is quite good. I can’t say how it compares to BC, GW, and Colgate, however.

thanks. i just got into tufts engineering now, so probably going with that as it was my first choice. sorry…
