So I've been applying under engineering even though I'm not at all sure that's what I want to do, but it's easier to start in engineering and get out than to start on the outside and get in.

However, let's say, theoretically, that by some miracle, Yale accepts me. Is their engineering any good? Would I be getting as good of an engineering education as the University of Illinois?

From what I've seen around here, not really

so i'd be better off just going to U of I?

I'm stilling applying to yale, but when i don't get in, it would be nice to have some consolation :)

You may not be getting answers to your question because there have been numerous other threads about engineering at Yale. Search this forum and you should be able to get more info. Bottom line: Engineering is not what Yale is best known for, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The student faculty ratio is great, they've poured tons of money into engineering in the past decade, and you'll have no problem with grad school or jobs if you do well.

It's not bad, but it's not too good either.

What factors observable to students show that a program at one college is good, while the program at another college is bad?

i wasn't even aware you could search. but i found it. thank you!
