I am going to be a second year community college. my goal is to transfer and major in either structural engineering or aerospace engineering at either UCSD, UCLA, and maybe UCB. definitely atracted to the math and sciences so i wont change my mind.

i was wondering if there are any former community college students who transfered to the UC majoring in an engineering field. I wanna hear ur stories, GPA, where did u get into, where u didnt get into, did u work too(as i am)???etc, etc... so please post replys

I went to and still am going to a CC in northern IL to finish my prereqs before transferring. I'm transferring to UIUC in the fall majoring in ME. GPA wise I have always been above a 3.0 in high school. Although, high school for me was a time of fun and I never took it seriously. Honestly, my ACT composite was lower 20 the first time I took it, second time was a 28. With that score and b/c of financial situations CC was the best option for me and I didnt apply to any college cept for the local.
So far I only spent about 5 grand for 2 years of schooling (financed by me), and earlier this year applied to UIC and UIUC both accepted although UIUC did take longer to decide. Both for me would cost about the same w/ UIUC exceeding by couple of g's. But then UIUC's giving me 12 g's of aid so it just makes sense to go to there. My college gpa is a 3.3 right now but the first year it was a 4.0, its not necessarily that the classes are hard but motivation is not there in CC.
Work wise I have been working every weekend during the school year these last two years about 16-18 hours with the occasional days off during a major exam. Currently I'm pulling off two jobs my reg weekend retail job and a civil eng intern job (which is awesome) and taking waves and optics at night.
Joined some clubs but was on the sidelines for math & engineering.
I admit since I've graduated from high school I've taken courses every single semester summer, spring, and fall for the last two years and I do not know many people doing this, working, and having a social life. Most people i met want the "college experience" so they fool around alot anyways GOOD LUCK on your quest, hope I answered your ques.
