engineering chances for transfer? (will chance back)

Hi everyone!
I am a penn state student right now...
and I wish to transfer to uiuc's engineering for Fall 2011 entrance!
My first choice is general engineering and my second is math (i wish to double major)

My fall 2010 gpa was 3.64 and I took the following courses (14 credits)
PHYS MECHANICS / B
CALC 2 / A
MATRICES / A
CHEM 1 / A-
SEMINAR / A (NOT TRANSFERRABLE)

currently and this spring 2011 I am taking
CHEM 2
CHEM 1 LAB
CALC 3
ELECTIVE 1
ELECTIVE 2 (both electives are transferable)

I think I have foreign language requirements since I was taking Spanish 1 to 4 in high school and I have AP credit for Spanish.

My high school GPA is around 3.2 and SAT is 1940.
Also, I am planning to take the ACT this february.

Thanks for reading and please comment me about my chances on UIUC!
I will try to chance you guys back ASAP.

Retaking the ACT is a good idea. Since you do not have 60 hours of transferrable credit yet, your chances based on that 1900, place you slightly below the middle 50% of applicants admitted to engineering. You don’t state your High School Class rank. That is another important consideration. Your college grades are good, but without 60 transferrable credit hours they base their decisions largely on HSPR and Standardized Test scores.

my rank is around 20?25? out of 70

oh and I am also taking MICROECON for this semester (i forgot to add)

and one more thing, I got rejected for freshmen admission when I was a senior but I still want to go to UIUC.

I would suggest finishing 60 hours of credit at another institution then unless you can improve the Standardized Test score.

hi again,

i took the ACT and I scored a 30.
how does this look now?

in addition, i applied Mathematics as my alternate major because I’m planning to double major.

Your SAT/ACT scores and GPA are not brilliant, but decent. Do you meet the course reqs from their transfer handbook? [Illinois Admissions: Not what you expected?](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions) I’m not sure how much these standards are adhered to, but they at least give you a guideline for what courses they expect.

If you don’t get in this semester, you should definitely apply next year – you’ll have a proven college record and you’ll probably meet their course requirements if you didn’t the first time around. Hope to see you there!

Oh, and you said you would chance back  so…

54 Transferrable credits (inc. physics I & II, chem I & II, calc I-III)
GPA: 4.0/4.0
SAT: 2080 (all ~690)
ECs: zip, nada, nil. Should have joined Phi Theta Kappa D:

Good luck again!

thanks Slight!
I have seen your previous posts via your profile.
If you’re applying as engineering physics I’m really not sure about that because you do not have the language requirements (according to your previous posts if I am correct).
Putting the language requirements aside, I am pretty sure you will get in to UIUC because you have a great gpa (is there LAS physics?).

btw, thanks for the course req link.
seems to be that I am missing a semester of composition and the lab portion of chem2.
do you think this will go against me?
I didnt take composition in here because it is not transferrable.
Oh, and I have some ECs in college, I am currently a member in Math Club and Engineers for a Sustainable World.
do you think those missing portions will go against me a lot?

Thanks for chancing me! Oh, and I do actually have the language req met, I just didn’t mention it (2 semester of spanish, one more next summer). BTW, there is LAS physics at UIUC, but it is literally the same curriculum as Engineering Physics… the reason why I’m applying to engineering is because “UIUC Engineering” looks great on a degree :-)

I visited UIUC a few months ago and was told that those who meet the requirements and have a decent GPA virtually always get in. So your missing classes might me a barrier, but if there is no transferable course at Penn (for the comp classes) they ought to take that into account. The chem lab is a pretty small deal, at least as far as I can see – it’s what, probably one credit?

Like I said though, if you don’t get in it will probably be for lack of one of those annoying requirements, and you would probably get in next fall (or spring!) if you reapply.

And if you don’t get in, Penn State is a great school – though I’m sure you have a good reason for wanting to transfer.

Best of luck! Hope to see you at UIUC!
