So I took a glance at the Princeton supplement to the Common App, and I noticed that engineering applicants had to write another essay. Would it be smart to apply undecided and forgo the extra essay, or should I write it because I ultimately would want to enter as an engineering major?

The essay isn’t anything complicated; IIRC it just asks you, “why engineering?” It’s an opportunity for you to show why you’re interested in engineering, and otherwise you’ll have to fake an interest in something else. So, I’d say you should probably do it, since it should only help you. ;)

I would do it unless the prompt is difficult for you (which it shouldn’t be because you’re interested in engineering…)

It gives you another opportunity to show yourself off

Honestly the engineering essay can be good for you because it’s a whole new opportunity to show yourself off, and it’s easy to write if you’re genuinely interested

Do you think there’s anyway that writing an additional essay could hurt me?

Sure, if you were to write a horrible essay.
