Does anyone know what the engineering facilities are like at Hopkins, especially the mechanical engineering ones?

There are a handful of labs that handle most of the coursework for the MechE department. In general, most of them are not too flashy/new but get the job done. One of the labs contains a number of experimental set-ups including a car engine and equipment to analyze it, 2 wind tunnels, pipe flow network, and a refrigeration cycle, all of which will be worked with as an undergrad. Across the hall from this lab is a jet engine lab, consisting of the smallest jet engine you will ever see. The thing is AWESOME though, it runs at like 10,000 rpm and pumps out a whooping 10 lbs of force at ~140dB. Unfortunately right down the hall from that is another pipe flow networking lab that is so old it is expected to have 500-8000% error when doing the experiment. In general the undergraduate labs are pretty nice though.

The grad/research labs here range from quite nice to utter crap. Depending on where you work and where the funding is depends on the quality of the labs here. They are all filled with state of the art technology. One of the labs has an impact gun that basically shoots projectiles into "stuff" and is photographed by the fastest camera in the world (only 3 exist). So some of the stuff here is really cool, but there is also a lot of old, messy set-ups that are less than appealing.

Hope that is what you were looking for

Do you know what building the mechanical engineering classes are held in?

Classes are typically held in any of the buildings on the lower quad and Hodson
