Engineering + foreign language?

Hi! I would like to know if its possible to do engineering, like BioE... actually i'm kinda unsure of the type of engineering i wanna do right now.. and also take a language, preferably japanese or chinese. And while i'm on this topic.. would it also be possible to study abroad? Thaaanks.. i hope someone can answer this >.< lol..

Possible. One of my friends (bioe) and I are taking language classes as engineering students. Definitely doable, but you need to plan your schedule out (esp for bioe due to so many requirements). In addition, coming in with lots of AP credit will help tremendously.

You just have to plan ahead, taking summer school might help too.

Language classes take up a lot of time, but I'm sure it's doable. Talk to one of the advisors for your college. Have you already been accepted into the College of Engineering?

ya i've already been excepted.. but i might actually wanna change to chemical engineering.. which is in the college of chemistry.. which is annoying -.- .. i have talked to an advisor (for bioE) but she told me that i probably shouldnt take a language freshmen year. that kinda put me off, but i spose i shouldnt only talk to one advisor, so i'm gonna email some more >.<

lol oops .. accepted*

chem E and a foreign language? that sounds like a bit too much.

ya.. i spose i've heard ChemE is very difficult, but is this still doable with other engineering programs without having no life and becoming too stressed out?

That's beyond my capabilities at least. I hear even the most talented and brilliant students in ChemE have a tough time with the program.

i have 5's in AP US history, AP world history, AP bio, AP Calc BC.. and a 4 in AP Comp/lang... and i'll be taking micro/macro econ, us gov and stats in may >.>... and i've taken Calc 3 at Pomona College and an engineering physics course (which supposedly counts as 7A and 7B)... i may not wanna test outta everything though... especially bio and physics... but maybe this could free up my schedule for a language?

You would have to talk to an advisor about that. I'm not entirely sure how all those APs translate into credits and reqs, sorry.

lol.. the advisor i talked to said they dont really deal with AP credit until i agree to go there

I doubt if you could study abroad for a full year if your major is ChemE, at least not in China or Japan.

You might consider taking language courses during the summer, though. If you have the cash, do a study abroad for the summer, either through the university or through another program.

If you do not come in with a bunch of AP credits, it is nearly impossible to study abroad for one whole year without taking more courses than a normal person would take during a school year.

i'm perfectly content with going abroad for a semester... a summer if i'm desperate but that would cost more $$ >.<.. and i enjoy being cheap lol
