Engineering Grad School Chances?

Hey guys,

Currently I'm going to be a senior undergrad student looking to go to grad school Fal 2006. I realize I have some ****ty GRE scores and don't have research experience. I was wondering what my chances were for some of schools like Penn State, GaTech, Illinois, Carnegie Mellon, possibly Stanford)

Senior Mechanical Engineering
Penn State University Main Campus (all 4 yrs)
3.8 GPA 3.82 ME GPA
720 GRE Quant ~510 GRE Verbal

Worked 2 summer internships doing mechanical engineering design work

Member of the usual honor societies.

Want to go for MS in ME for Design or FEA

While 720 is a tad low for engineering school, a 520 Verbal isn't bad at all. Check your percentile - you're probably well above 50th. And engineering schools don't care about verbal GRE anyway (I know someone who got an NSF fellowship with a 400!). Your GPA is pretty impressive. Research experience would help - however, your summer internships seem to apply very well to your field of interest (not only giving you something decent to write about but, more importantly, a source for good rec letters).

The other thing to consider is that terminal MS programs in engineering are basically cash cows for schools, so it's not all that difficult to get in. Stanford runs one such program. It will be a lot more expensive than Penn State, but may help you land a good job somewhere and would definately be helpful if you decided that you wanted to pursue a PhD.
