Has anyone gotten accepted into the Engineering Honors program yet?
Engineering honors is notable for being the only UT honors program that doesn’t have an early or priority deadline of October 15. In years past, they wait until they receive all of their applications and release decisions by March 1 at the end of February. Engineering honors is pretty cut and dry - they basically take the top applicants to regular engineering who completed the honors application. It is very “numbers” driven, even more so than Business Honors.
@KevinRMartin Thank you Kevin. I will tell my future LH that she needs to just forget about it for now. It won’t change her decision to go to UT anyway. She’s doing aerospace there. She got into all 5 schools she applied to, but UT Austin is her first choice.
My pleasure! I mean, if she finds out early, that’s great! And would be good info for me and others to have. If not, just a matter of waiting. Glad she will have options moving forward regardless of the outcome of her honors app.
@KevinRMartin Do you think that her going ahead and accepting her aerospace eng admission will affect the honorrs app in any way? She wants to go to UT whether she gets honors or not so she wants to go ahead and accept.
Nope. Accepting her decision early shouldn’t influence her honors application. You could always try calling engineering honors directly.
Just to clarify, she has already heard back from Aerospace for regular admissions?
@KevinRMartin Yes, she is an in state auto admit, and she is also already accepted into aerospace engineering in the first round earlier this month. That is her first choice major at UT.
Okay this is great information to know, thanks. I’m trying to figure out which colleges/schools have already released, and this is the first engineering admit I have heard. Did she hear sometime the week of the 14th?
@KevinRMartin Look in the Class of 2021 thread to see those who have gotten notices. Smattering of schools so far mostly people who applied for honors with great stats. Many of the McCombs admits got BHP interviews.
@KevinRMartin Yes, I believe she heard on Monday, Nov. 14th at the end of the day.
@gettingschooled thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Those reports correspond with what I have observed. About half of those who were interviewed for BHP last week will be admitted, so some people should be getting some good news next month.
My understanding is all applicants complete by the October 15 priority deadline will be notified of being admitted, deferred to regular decision, and some will be denied.
@KevinRMartin I just looked at the other thread, and it looks like she heard the afternoon of the 18th. I saw a Chem Eng announce admission as well. Start on about Page 13 of that pinned thread to get to the admission announcements.
According to a response I received today from Texas Engineering on Twitter, they will begin inviting admitted students to Engineering Honors in January and continue through the Spring.
Seeing BHP, Turing and Plan II coming out. My future Longhorn sure would love to hear good news from Eng Honors before the winter break begins…
BHP and Plan II are very distinct programs. Engineering Honors is not a fundamentally different program than Engineering so don’t stress over the winter break.
@NotSoPatient my LHS received his invitation to join the Engineering Honors program around spring break in March. If your future LHD finds out sooner, consider it a nice surprise!
Last year, it seemed that Engineering back loaded most of their acceptances into the Jan/Feb timeframe, not as many admitted early on like other colleges / majors. Eng Honors acceptances only come out after that (as do Engineering hopefuls waiting on a second major of Plan II–they review the applications only after Engineering has made decisions).
Have applied to CS in engineering programme. My status shows under review.
I checked in with Engineering on Twitter this morning, and they said they don’t have a definitive date yet but the first group of invitations for Engineering Honors will be going out in January. Good luck to everyone waiting!
I just checked mystatus and in the honors tab it says I was accepted! I didn’t get an email or anything, but I’m guessing the first wave of acceptances is out now. Good luck guys
