Engineering LLC vs. Honors LLC

I'm somewhat torn between the Honors or Engineering First-Year LLC's. Any thoughts about any differences between them? Honors is up the hill in Sutherland, Engineering is closer to the school buildings in Forbes. I'm wondering if Engineering Honors students are more likely to be in one or the other? I want to get to know people, am not a partier, tend to fly on the geeky side of things.

thanks!

I’ve mentioned this a few times in my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pittsburgh/1161888-rising-pitt-senior-here-ask-me-anything.html

In quick summary, you’ll want the UHC housing if you’re doing honors engineering and engineering housing if you’re doing regular engineering.

And actually, honors housing is probably closer to Benedum and the other classes than Forbes is.

My D lived in Honors Housing both Freshman and Sophomore year. She knows many people who are majoring in Engineering from living in the Honors Dorms. Looking back she would not have changed her choices.

Living in Forbes last year was the best decision of my life. Ever.

Leftoversman, can you elaborate? What did you like about Forbes? This would be very useful info. Thanks!

I’ll let leftoversman speak more, but I can talk about the actual building itself (I lived there a few years ago). One of the pluses: most (not all, but MOST) of the rooms are quite spacious. There are even some rooms with balconies (however, if you are stupid and throw stuff off the balconies, they will lock them up and you won’t be able to use them for the rest of the year). The dorm only has 4 living floors (3-6) and a lounge/study/gym floor (2). The first floor is an entrance and a book store. The 2nd floor is quite nice (Not sure how much has changed): it had a little library with some computers, a lounge with a ping-pong table, couches, chairs and study tables, and a projector for watching TV/movies. There is a little indoor gym with a few pieces of equipment and then a nice little grass patio area where you can look down onto the street.

Each living floor has three wings, two major ones, and a “midget” wing across from the elevator. Each major wing has a large bathroom with showers/stalls and a hanicapped one. They also have kitchenettes with a microwave and sink, tables and chairs, and whiteboard. The midget wings have a small bathroom with two showers, sinks and stalls (I think). Each floor also has a communal lounge with sofas, table, and TV and each floor has two laundry units (two washers, two driers).

Thanks! Also, what do you think of the location (vs. Towers)?

I liked it. It was a lot quieter than the noisy Towers Lobby. When you want to eat out, everything is RIGHT THERE which is convenient. The only time it was a bit sucky was dinner time in the winter-- it would be cold and dark and you have to walk a few blocks to food, but other than that, it was great! A lot of times I would pick up food from Quick Zone or Schenley Cafe or something and bring it back to my room to eat on my own time.

leftoversman–Couldn’t agree more. Wonder if we knew each other :)

You’ll be happy no matter where you end up–but I would say to go with Forbes. Everyone there has the same classes, teachers, and assignments…and they always help each other out. It’s a great support system.

I lived in the smallest room in Forbes and managed to fit a futon. It’s pretty great for a freshman dorm.

Also, when freshman engineering programs aren’t held in Benedum they’re normally held in Forbes…which is extremely convenient.
