engineering major? please respond!

What do you guys think of being an engineering major (biomedical) for medical school? I heard engineering majors tend to get low GPA's..any way this can be compensated? Do med. schools like engineering majors? What makes engineering classes so hard? I could be a regular bio. major, but I feel that it's "boring" and that everyone else who's premed is also a bio. major...

Biomedical engineering aint exactly going out on a limb either. Major in whatever you like. Don't feel that you have to major in something just to stand out.

i was thinking about that just that. would engineering in undergrad be a good idea if u would want to consider it as a backup in case u don't get into medical school?

I don't remember where I read this, it was probably here on CC.

But the idea of engineering as a back up can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. You major in engineering as a back up in case you don't get into med school; but engineers usually have lower grades due to difficult courses and grade deflation. So they're more likely to be rejected by med schools and pursue a career in engineering.

That said, you should major in whatever you would like most, so long as you can maintain a med-school worthy GPA (I think).

thanks. that is exactly what i;ve been hearing. another question. if i really like neuroscience and chose that as my major, should that be okay? I mean would it make me possibly stand out even? thanks

I doubt that neuroscience would make you stand out. And again, your major doesn't really matter; you don't need to try and stand out by choosing an uncommon major.

If you're relying on your major to make you stand out, you have a pretty boring application. Better to try something else instead.

Want something weird?

Major in economics. :D

*Really, seriously, it doesn't matter. But it's still cool to be weird.

if you want to "stand out" as far as majors

mine as well major in underwater basket-weaving :P
