Engineering program comparison

Anyone have any insight on Clemson Engineering vs. Ohio State Engineering?

@mommamo1 Ohio State’s engineering program on US News is ranked #29, while Clemson is ranked #69. Your post speaks to me because our family is comparing engineering options, as well. My son has been accepted into higher-ranking and more generous engineering programs, but the Clemson campus feel was his #1. None of us, even my son, have been able to justify a commitment to Clemson yet…especially with $0 offered.

Academics are probably comparable - both really good schools, and the quality of education is high. Can’t comment on the relative outcome and job placement, but Clemson is well known for highly loyal alumni base. Admissions competitiveness: my son applied to both of them (Civil Eng as first choice major) and got rejected almost immediately by OSU, even though both parents studied/worked there LOL (GPA3.7, SAT1330, top 30-40% rank from a super competitive HS that doesn’t rank). Clemson accepted, but only to his second choice major (Constr Science, not part of CoE). Yes, it seems impossible to get into a top-tier engineering school with a A- av. grade, which is ridiculous.

Campus feel is very different. I love OSU campus. It is expansive, they have done a lot of renovations lately and did a great job blending old and new. Clemson campus is more intimate and less formal. It needs a refresh, IMHO. Sports/school spirit are comparable - football is king at both schools, for obvious reasons. Columbus is a pretty big city, Clemson is small and isolated. Climate is much milder in SC vs OH, obviously. Personally I would choose OSU, as I don’t mind cold.

Super helpful, thank you so much!
