i’m a junior and i made the mistake of taking ap chem and ap bio together sophomore year, so i did badly on both of the ap exams.
i don’t really care about my ap bio score because i hate bio (got a 3 lol), but should i retake the ap chem exam if i want to get into the engineering school? i got a 4.
other info (as of end of sophomore year):
asian female, in state
havent taken the standardized tests yet but the highest sat score i've gotten during practice is 1560
gpa 3.91
currently taking ap calc, ap lang, ap world, ap music theory, ap comp sci java, ap physics c (whoops)
i can also play flute and paint ok but i'm not sure if they'll really consider that bc it's an engineering school....
They accept a 4 for credit in the college of engineering, so there should be no worries about having to retake it. I don’t believe it would negatively affect you in any way since I’ve also gotten primarily 4s, and a couple 3s on ap tests.
Edit: I play the flute, and even though I did apply to the engineering school, I put MSBOA/band related activities and elements on various parts of my common app.
AP score bear very little weight in admission. It is the course rigor that is more important. AP scores are only self-reported. After all, a score of 4 is not bad at all.
With a 4 or 5 on AP chem you will get credit for 1 semester. It is only in Calc BC you had a 5 you would get credit for 2 semesters (one for 4). AP Bio follows LSA guidelines and will only give you distribution credit, not credit toward your core engineering requirements.
They don’t care as much about how you do on the AP test compared with how you do in an AP class. AP test scores are mainly used for determining whether you get credit or place out of some intro class, not so much for admissions decisions.
