Hi!
I’m a rising high school junior and I have just received my AP exam scores.
I took 3 exam this year but I got a 4 on AP Chem. I’m planning on going into biology major in college. Would this score hurt my chances at all?
(I got 5s on the other two exams and I got an A both semesters of AP chem.)
Planning to apply to ivies and other tops
Thank you!
No. A 4 on an AP test is just fine.
It’s not gonna hurt even if I’m going into a stem major?
Thank you!
It won’t be the reason you’re not accepted, no. Although you will likely not get credit, depending on the college.
Should I still send it then?
Hi @Yishiang15 per my D19, that AP Chem Test is TOUGH (you’ve got a lot of math AND a lot of chem combined). A 4 on it is just fine. D19 got a 4 on that (and AP Euro) and a 5 on all the others and she got into UCLA as a Chem major, so obviously that 4 didn’t hurt her (like you, she got an A both semesters in AP Chem, too). This will not be the “make or break” component of getting into a school. Keep up the good work!!
Should you list on your application? Yes. The score report, though, only needs to be sent to the college you will be attending.
Most schools accepting APs accept 4, but others only accept 5 for chem (for example, Vandy). But if you are premed, you will want to retake chem in college anyway. You will need to work harder for that A as that is premed weedout. At least that was D17’s experience.
One little thing will not hurt your application. D17 got 760 on math 2 (taken Freshman year and she never retook any test. Lol) and still got into MIT.
