engineering school chances

hi everyone i just failed an physics test and will most likely end up with an A- for first semester, making my overall GPA around 3.85, maybe higher. I’m a junior, so these will show up on my transcript when I apply, so should I do anything to spice up my application before I actually write the essays? Here is what I have so far:

gender/race: female, asian
in-state

predicted GPA: 3.85 ish (ew)
SAT: 1570 (14 for writing because i hate myself), 800 for math 2
PSAT: 1490 (i haven’t heard anything about national merit yet)
ACT: 35 (8 for writing because, again, i hate myself)

AP classes sophomore year: chem, bio, chinese (i self-studied this, so i don’t know if it’ll show up on my transcript)
AP classes junior year: physics c, english language, calc 1, world, comp sci java, music theory

clubs: officer for the piano club, national honors society, occasionally girls who code
extras: invited to the MSBOA concerto competition on flute, previous member of DSYWE and current member of MYE Band

i know they’ll probably give me a little leeway on my GPA because I’m taking so many hard classes, but i’m worried about my writing scores and foreign language credits (assuming Chinese doesn’t go in), even if it is an engineering school.

and my school is extremely competitive for a public school (twenty people got above 1480 on the PSAT, a bunch of people got 36 on the ACT, and four people got 1590 on the SAT).

so do y’all think this is good enough to get in or should i just go for LSA? what should i add (portfolios, jobs, etc.)?

and not that it’s that important but this entire application looks very asian, and statistically speaking, colleges discriminate against asians, so should i make my application less…asian…?

Why do you want to be an engineer? Nothing in what you typed above screams “passionate about engineering”. You took a lot of AP classes, but there seems to be no focus in the direction of your classes. If you want to go to engineering school, your application should address that desire directly. If your summer activities help in this area, you should definitely expand on them in your application.

If you have no grade below A-, your UMich uwGPA is still 4.0. You should recalculate your uwGPA without subgrades. Your chance is very good if your recalculated uwGPA is >3.9.

@flutespell: The U of M does not consider “racial/ethnic status” in making admissions decisions.

my school offers an “engineering” course and two programming classes, all of which i am planning to attend, but our tech/comp sci department is uhhhhhhhhjjhhjjhhjk lacking to say the least

and i got one B+ in us history #yikes but that won’t bring my gpa down a lot probably? because i took extra classes and everything else is an A/A-

You must be Asian, if you consider an A- a fail. Just continue what you are doing and you are a very good candidate for Michigan engineering. Being a woman will help you in admissions, being Asian makes no difference at all.

lmao i actually forgot that they recalculated gpa, but yall reminded me so i feel much better but won’t the admissions officers squint when they see my sexy list of consistent A-'s in english? not to mention that i dropped out of FL after spanish 2

I really doubt the engineering school is going to look down on A-s in english lol
