Engineering Science vs Industrial (operations and systems)

I have no idea what field of engineering I want to do. I do not want to major in comp sic although I will study it. I do not want to get stuck with 4 years of something like boomed and hate it. I just want a versatile major where I can study applied mathematics while going down a finance path towards the business world. I love math and I like the sciences. I definitely want to do engineering, but I want it geared toward the business world, creativity, efficiency, making the world a better place, innovation things like that. I do not want to be stuck in a lab with test tubes or creating a computer or designing a new car engine. Vandy and Mich do not offer things like financial engineering, but they offer these 2 majors (Vandy- engineering science…Mich-IOS)… Which path should I consider? http://ioe.engin.umich.edu http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/major/factsheet/1031.

How about this?

At this point you should consider a lot of programs! The more you learn, the happier you will be with your final choice.

When comparing programs, take a look at the curriculum, the courses you would take to complete the degree, including the technical electives. If you’re comparing Vandy to U-M, what’s the difference in the curriculum, which one seems more appealing? Do you like the more planned approached of U-M’s IOS program, or the flexibility of Vandy’s Engineering Sciences? Graduates of U-M’s program usually go into one of 4 fields (initially), while Vandy’s grads are much more diverse.

Also take a look graduation placement. Which companies are hiring? Do you want to work for these companies?

Both of these majors are “diverse” in the fields and roles a graduate may have in the future:
