Engineering vs. other solid majors

Penn State University

I can't make up my mind on my major. I question myself every day, am in the right program? Right now, I am on track to graduate with a degree in industrial engineering. I am doing well in all my classes but I don't really enjoy them. Math is fun, physics is dry, engineering mechanics is repetitive, and computer science is meticulous, its a frustrating combination.

That is what lead me to pursue industrial engineering. It seems a lot less heavy on mechanics. But what does one study? Is it more like a business degree. Supply chain management seems like a wimpy knock off of operations research?

Then sometimes I think about switching my major to something like statistics, security risk analysis, or business with a minor in math.

"It just pains me to walk away from something I've already invested so much time into." said Sally about John.

Please give me your thoughts

It doesn’t look like engineering is your calling, and that’s ok. Try and pick a higher level major, like math, then (if you desire) minor in something more specialized.

IMO, changing majors is your best option. Research your new major well before officially delcaring it to the records office in order to avoid regretting your decision. Focus especially on the type of work people in your field get involved with… including, but not limited to, day to day tasks, pay, job outlook, etc.
