Engineering Summer Academy at Penn - ESAP 2020

Hi,

I know that the decision for the ESAP 2020 program was supposed to be announced this week. Has anyone got any emails from Penn yet?

Chandra

Hi,

I applied priority and haven’t gotten anything yet. Does anyone know if they will go online if the program ends up being canceled?

Penn hasn’t announced anything about ESAP. Some other schools (Stanford) have already decided that they are going online this summer.

we did not hear anything yet and were complete by the priority deadline. (wanting robotics)

I submitted before the priority deadline and haven’t received anything yet. Has anyone heard from Penn?

Well… just got an email telling us that the decision will be delayed a week. So, I expect something by Thursday or Friday

today’s email said the robotics program is cancelled…as well as all Penn summer programs. I am, just for future reference, wondering if that inferrs he got in to robotics?

Didn’t get any email this week. When was this email about all summer programs bring canceled?

THURSDAY EMAIL:

Dear Applicants and Parents,

It is with regret and much sadness that we inform you that our ESAP Robotics course will not be offered this summer. I know that this decision may be very disappointing to you, but we do feel that this is the right action for many reasons and one that is our responsibility to make given the current local, national and global situation. The University of Pennsylvania has suspended all summer campus programs for an indefinite period of time as part of a nation-wide effort to reduce the COVID-19 infection rate.

Please know we do this with a heavy heart and wish that this was not the news I needed to relay. We wish you the very best as you finish out this academic year remotely and meet the challenges of life as we deal with the pandemic.

Your application fee will be refunded and we hope to have this completed as soon as possible. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we navigate these processes due to our new reality. More details will be provided later.

We welcome and encourage all eligible students to reapply next year when life has hopefully returned to normal. Please take good care of yourselves and those around you.

Best,
Dr. Nadira Williams

@hopealan Thanks for posting this email. While they have clearly said that Robotics will not be offered, it says other programs are suspended indefinitely. I guess that’s why my son didn’t get the email because he applied for CS and not Robotics. I’m hoping that they are figuring out a way how they can offer that remotely.

I think that is an interesting point. I am surprised you still do not have any notification at all from them. please post when you hear. Do you think they group the students into courses before or after acceptance?

@hopealan The application asks for what you are applying for. You make two choices. Computer science, Robotics, Nanotechnology were all separate choices

Just got notification. Placed on waitlist for CS. Computer science, computer graphics and Networks have been made online classes.

My daughter applied for CS and Networks and just got a waitlist email.

Daughter just got an acceptance email last night for the on-line version of CS program. Anyone else accepted?

My daughter got into the networks program. Given that it is online, I am wondering how useful it is for the price tag of $4750?

Does it really help in the college applications?

Will really appreciate any feedback as we have to sign up by 29th April.

A follow up question is on the college credits.

The website says:
“participants who successfully complete the ESAP program receive 1 Penn credit unit (usually the equivalent of a 2-3 credit class) which is posted on their Penn transcript.”

Can this credit be used at any college or only at UPenn?
