I am currently a freshman at TCU. I am not loving it right now and the engineering program is small, which does not help. I am considering transferring but am completely torn, partially just because its scary to have to start over again. I am applying to UT and A&M, not sure which I am leaning towards more. I was kind of thrown into mechanical engineering since TCU doesn't have much of a choice, but I originally wanted to do petroleum so I may be switching if I transfer. Also, TCU is becoming more selective every year so I don't know if it would be worth sticking with it. Any opinions of these schools that could me? thanks!

If you stick with petroleum go to A&M. Other than that I would say UT is a bit better than A&M for most Engineering but not so much that it will hurt your career in the long run either way. If you like Austin got to UT if you are ok in College Station then go for A&M. Best of luck

UT Austin has the #1 petroleum engineering program in the nation. I think Texas A&M is #2, so either way they’re both the best in the nation.

I’d definitely go to UT though because it is a much more respected engineering school overall, and the overall university is much more respected than A&M.

Also, have you even checked out transferring into Cockrell at UT? It’s really tough. The average GPA of a transfer student is about a 3.8-3.85.
