Engineering -- Undecided at Uconn

Hello all,
I just sent my Uconn application. On it, I listed my intended major as enguneering (undecided) because I honestly don’t know whether I want to do civil, mechanical, etc. Will this hurt my chance of getting a specific engineering program (i.e. Mechanical) if I don’t apply from the get-go? Also, if anyone knows, how does undecided engineering work?

You can go in undecided for engineering you will take the required classes for the field of engineering and when the time comes to declare which type of engineering you wish to proceed with you will start working towards that major within the school of engineering. However, it is much easier to start from the beginning with the field of engineering that interests you so this way you can take a class or two that is more focused specifically. You could possibly run the risk of being short credits if you don’t start entirely from the beginning. GPA plays a big role also, for instance you will need a 3.5 to transfer into mechanical in junior year so just be careful and talk to your advisors.
