Engineering v. School of Arts

So I’m a female hoping to go into neural engineering or computer engineering but I’ve noticed that where around a thousand kids get into arts and sciences not as many get into the engineering school? I’ll admit my application probably isn’t that strong with a low gpa and not too high test scores so is it worth it applying for the engineering school? Tufts is my dream school and I really want to get in, so which choice maximizes my chances?

Not as many students get into the engineering school because it is simply not as large. That doesn’t mean it’s harder to get into though. For the class of 2019, the acceptance rates were 16% for Arts and Sciences and 15% for engineering, so they’re effectively the same. Tufts overall has more girls than guys apply, but I’m sure that it’s the opposite away around for engineering. If you knew you were going to get in, which would you choose? That’s the school you should apply to.

You should apply to engineering if you’re interested in engineering. Girls have an advantage when applying to engineering, but there’s no such advantage when applying to A&S.
