Engineering, Vista or XP?

<p>so in the mechanical engineering computer requirement site i read this:</p>

<p>"Windows XP Professional operating system (XP Home is not adequate)
Please note that we recommend students postpone adopting Windows Vista. Some compatibility issues with specialized engineering software and data acquisition hardware have not yet been resolved with the Vista operating system."</p>

<p>but i notived it said it was effective summer 2006. anybody here have a clue if Vista is now compatible with all the engineering softwares?</p>

<p>We use XP where I work for this reason too. However, I am willing to bet Vista will be OK...especially in the time frame you are going to start needing the engineering apps...which is a couple of years away.</p>

<p>My DS son had this same question -- he is a current engineering freshman. He emailed the contact person at the school of engineering, and he was told to go ahead and get Vista.</p>
