free windows vista or xp from ucla?

i heard somewhere that we can get a copy of vista or xp from ucla or engineering school... anyone know where and how?

SEASnet Computing Facility at UCLA Look for the link "Microsoft Software." You need to be enrolled in at least one engineering class to get access.

Edit: Just so you know, it's not available during the summer, so you'll have to wait until Fall Quarter starts.

so we just download these? or can we borrow the dvd/cd?

They're downloads, some of which you can burn to CD/DVD.

can we get free microsoft office too?

the software is only for currently enrolled engineering students

And even if you are an engineer, MSDNAA does not include Office.

use a torrent then!

cool im in CEE 101 so im sure i can get it... thanks man, i just needed to know since im getting a mac and might as well put windows on it too :)

torrent ftw?

im still a bit skeptical about downloading stuff made by big companies like microsoft... maybe im just too careful? I mean if you get a pirated windows, everytime you go online you run the risk of getting caught my microsoft right?

Using Windows Update requires the installation of a validation tool but I wouldn't think Windows would report back to MS every time you go online.

@kickserve, not if its a corporate edition.

LL FTW. Of course only one person knows what I'm talking about, and they already know who they are. Well, if there are any other LLer's in there speak up! Actually Brandon is an LLer, but he doesn't posts.

they dont hunt you down or sue you or anything (unless maybe if you are making mass copies of it and selling/handing it out to people).

the most that would happen is the "windows genuine advantage" tool will fail the authenticity check, and then cripple windows in various ways. and you wont be able to get some of the latest windows updates.

there are ways around it. i know many people with pirated windows and they're running fine. i personally dont know whats involved to get around it because mines legit. :p

does anyone have a microsoft office cd less than 2007? i just got my computer reformatted and i need microsoft word minimally. if possible, powerpoint and excel--i need those within a few wks for sure. please PM me if you could help. thanks!

why don't you just buy the student edition for ~$100 at the ucla store?

or dl it? :)

dl=download? im not an engineering student nor do i have friends in engineering at summer school now.

Contact whoever configured your computer. You should either have a licensed copy, or you used someone's copy. Go find this person.
