Engineering vs. Business Major

Hello, I was wondering what is the most meaningful career: engineering or business. Because I have a high GPA and a love of learning, I believe either field I would prosper. If i choose business, I will probably major in marketing and/or management. If I choose engineering, I will major in mechanical engineering. SALARY DOES NOT MATTER. Could I possibly double major? If so, how much workload will I have. I would love a career that is meaningful. Thank you!

Your decision needs to be based on what is meaningful to YOU not to people who never met you.

Why not both? lol

This is a silly question. They are drastically different fields, so there’s no way you have an equal interest in both. You need to figure out which is more interesting to you.

As for the whole “meaningful” aspect, it’s all subjective. Everyone values things differently.

As for the workload of double majoring, well it depends how you plan to accomplish it. If you plan to graduate on time, then it’s going to be insanely difficult. If you plan to graduate, 1-2 years late, it’s not going to be anymore difficult.

As for double majoring, I would really vote no because they don’t mesh well unless you plan to work for a small company or open your own company. There is value in the mesh, but the additional cost of double majoring isn’t going to be offset enough.

Pro tip: an undergrad business degree in management doesn’t have the greatest job prospects.

For somebody who truly has the aptitude for business or engineering, I’d consider engineering undergrad and then let your employer send you for an MBA once you have some technical skills.
