Engineering

Okay, so I didn't expect in a million years to get accepted, but alas here I am. I didn't really check out their program because of that so I was wondering how good is Wash U's engineering program? What's it ranked? Do lots of people get jobs afterwards? What are the classes like? Stuff like that. Thanks!

yea im in the same situation and was wondering the same

You applied without even learning about the engineering program? Check out the department web sites and the research that is going on there. You might want to check out the letter from the new dean that discusses their strategic direction. Just had a meal with a last night with someone who went there undergrad and then went back back to teach after getting doctorate. No longer there. He said the students there are very good, the department is very accommodating and flexible, and is making a push in Biomed but has always been good in Mech/Aerospace. D has several engineering friends who say it is rigorous. Opportunities for jobs and grad school seem good. They will also allow you take courses in any other department, double major etc.

I too would like to hear/learn more about the engineering programs at Wash U. From reading over this thread and looking at some of the traditional engineering schools, it seems that engineering is not that well ranked or developed at Wash U.

I was reading about the Chemical Engineering and I'm not even sure it is ABET accrediated? Also, their engineering programs don't seem to have much reputation. Could one have a better engineering education by driving down I-44 to UMR (Rolla) ?

Cressida, the Chemical Engineering program is ABET accredited (<a href="http://www.abet.org/schoolregioneac.asp#W)%5B/url%5D">http://www.abet.org/schoolregioneac.asp#W)</a>.

I am a junior, Mechanical Engineering major at WashU and I can say that I have had a great experience so far. Engineering is tough and is known to be one of the hardest majors at WashU (along with Architecture and being a Pre-med). If anyone has any specific questions I would be happy to answer them.
