Engineers: Is co-op fun?

I wanted to know how is everyone's experience with co-op, especially if you go to a co-op base university such as Northeastern, Drexel, and RIT.

Is doing co-op something that's fun or do you feel like you rather be in classes? Do you actually do hands on work and design or are you just busy filing papers?

I'm debating right now whether I want to spend 5 years rotating between co-op and classes, or 4 years in classes with summer internships. The fear I have is that many co-op schools allow students to do co-op after only 2 years or 4 semesters of college experience and I'm not sure how much a student with just 2 years of experience can truly contribute to a company.

Any stories or advice?

Im a sophmore, first term coop and I love it. Its challenging to be between a team of well qualified engineers and know what thw heck is going on. This part is the beauty of it. You dont have to wait till your 23 to experience this, you go throu it now and advance way ahead when you are 23.
