I don't think I would get in to UVA cos it's a top state school, and it also wouldn't give me the aid I need.
These suggestions are all so great, thanks so much!

William and Mary is much harder to get in to than UVA

Wash U is excellent in Business, Englishm and Creative Writing

I don't necessarily think that William and Mary is harder to get into than UVA. Possibly because of the sheer number of spots available, it might be. In my opinion, they are both such great schools. I have many friends at UVA and Charlottesville is beautiful. I just think it boils down to the fact that William and Mary and UVA are so different. So I really think personality and interests comes strongly into play here. I got into both of these schools, but I am a male in-state. I am constantly reminded of what awesome public universities are in Virginia.

A note on BU: BU doesn't offer a marketing major--everyone in the business school is a business major concentrating in a functional area. While you will be able to take some great marketing classes, you also have to take the general business requirements. I'm not sure if you want to do that.

There is an advertising program, however, that I believe is offered through the College of Communications (I think the College of Arts and Sciences also offers a minor). You may want to look into that.

Quick question, though: are you looking for marketing or advertising? Marketing can be rather math intensive. Advertising may complement your English major a little better.

Thanks ryanbis. I am more interested in Marketing, as I feel it's more general than Advertising and I'd also rather do Marketing. I know at Lehigh you're in the Business shchool where you take core business classes then the rest are Marketing classes for your major, so it sounds like BU is kinda similar. So obviously in the core there are accounting, finanace, stats classes etc. Yeh I know it's weird to take Marketing and English!
Pedsox, thanks also. Yeh they are v.different. I think I'd be happy in both places to be honest. For me it comes down to the professors, classes and types of students but I haven't heard bad things about either in UVA or W&M, I just can't go to UVA (aid).

It is like that at any business school though.

While I'm looking at schools that offer both Marketing and English majors (and considering aid), I'm also thinking I prefer LAC's or LAC-type schools (if that makes sense). But I'm also worried about the intense competition and pressure in places like Brown and the top LAC's (Williams, Welsely etc.). Of course, it seems the LAC's don't offer Marketing anyway so there's not much to worry about there. So any free-for-all suggestions on these schools?:

Brown University
UPenn
Uni of Maryland - College Park
American
Georgetown
William and Mary
Fordham
Boston University
Syracuse
Lehigh

Oh, I've also heard UPenn and Lehigh have huge frat scenes. Not my thing at all, but I guess UPenn is in the city so that would counterbalance it.

-->bump<--?

Penn doesn't have a huge frat scene. 30% of the students are Greek. You can participate and not be Greek, or you can choose not to participate. There's so much else going on on campus and in the city that you never feel like your options are limited to Greek life.

lovecollege- perhaps it would help to explain your combined interest. Are you interested more in writing or literature/analysis?

Have you considered something more like this:
http://www.ggu.edu/school_of_business/programs_degrees/marketing_communications/ms_imc ?

To be totally honest, I don't know what I want to "be" yet. I love English Literature so much that I want to have it as a major regardless of where I end up. I'm also interested in Marketing because it is creative, business-orientated and could give me 'real-world' experience. So maybe I'll end up in an administrative job, research etc. etc. I still have grad school to narrow things down but these are the two things I want to take at college. I'm sad that LAC's don't offer Marketing classes but you can't always have the best of both worlds!

So does anyone have any more info to give on the schools above I mentioned (yes, I heard with Penn u can wholly ignore the Greek scene). Do you know what the people are like in general? Thanks again!!

I'd add Skidmore to your list.

University of Virginia has a top 10 undergrad business school which offers marketing concentration and at the same time you can get an English degree (another UVa;s forte) from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Thanks untilted. I did consider and look into UVA. Unfortunately, the aid would be no good at all cos it's a state school (they tell me) and I need a lot of aid. Also, as an out-of-stater it would be even harder to get into. And now I'm looking into things I've decided I want to be up north more to be closer to family/friends. Although I would still like some kind of diverse campus.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on my list or can add to it? (Thanks for Skidmore)

William and Mary is a public school so if you are having problems with aid from public schools then it won't be a good choice.
