English and Math freshman placement tests?

<p>I haven't noticed anything about freshman placement tests on the website, does Tulane have freshman take these? If so, when are those taken? If not, do all students start with English 101, or? </p>

<p>Here is the text from the catalog under Degree Requirements</p>

• Successful completion of either English 101 or a 119 course in any liberal arts or science department. NOTE: This writing requirement must be completed successfully in the first year of study at Tulane University. A student may receive credit for only one 119-course. Furthermore, ENGL 101 and any 119-numbered course are considered to be duplicate credit.

• Successful completion of one course in mathematics (excluding Math 119), or
• Successful completion of Symbolic Logic (Philosophy 121 – BA, BFA, and MARCH degrees only) or
• Experiments and Experimental Design (BMEN 201).
note: Students completing a Bachelor of Science degree have additional restrictions on courses that will complete the Quantitative Reasoning requirement. Consult the individual school sections for more information.

<p>Then it goes on to describe the science requirements, etc.</p>

<p>So it looks like the only placement tests they use are the AP tests, otherwise the student has to take one of the basic English courses and whatever math course they feel competent to take and either have the prerequisites for or can get a professors permission, if they really want to skip the basic level.</p>
