<p>I am interested in applying to UMich and so was wondering, how is the English major/department at UMich? And what distinguishes the English department at UMich from other universities?</p>

<p>It is big (404 English grads in 2004) but class size for first year students is small (average 18 students).</p>

<p>Michigan's a sweet school for any and all majors. As collegehelp said, it's top 15, which means it's great but not necessarily one of Michigan's specialties. I know an honors english major and I respect him a lot. he department is great from what I've heard from people in it. Lots of english majors live in the RC, so there's a good community feel for many of them.</p>
