<p>I just wanted to know how difficult is the english class for first year? I am not a native tongue, so I am not natural at it. If you do your work right will that give you a good A grade? Also I heard that it is not useful to take an AP English Test as it just puts you in a much more difficult class, is that true?</p>
<p>I'm not going to comment too much on the difficulty of Interpretation and Argument, since I'm a native speaker, but keep in mind that CMU has many more engineers and CS majors taking the class than English majors. Also, if you aren't a native speaker, you may have to take a placement test and you could be placed into a lower level class intended to increase your fluency. While some people dislike it, it's probably to your benefit to increase your reading/writing skills, because without them, you'll have difficulty in all your classes.</p>
<p>If you get a 5 on one of the AP English tests, you have the <em>option</em> of placing into a higher level class, which may or may not actually be more difficult.</p>
