Hi people, i am an english major and I was just wondering if it is difficult to transfer to a UC as a English major. Ive heard from people that english is impacted, does that mean it is really difficult to get in with an english major? Ill be applying in July or November depending if they accept winter transfers. By the time I apply my gpa will be about 3.2-3.3 . Would it be difficult to get into schools like UCI, UCSB, UCD, or even Ucla? Thanks.

ucla avg gpa for english majors is 3.6, so thats kind of a reach.

the rest you have a decent shot

TAG if you can for Irvine, Santa Barbara, and Davis!

I am an English major with a 3.3 GPA as well. I was originally supposed to transfer a couple of years ago, but I’ve had some complications. Anyway, I applied to UCSD in 2008, no Honors certification, few ECs, worked part-time, etc. And I was admitted for Literature/Writing.

So, for UCI, UCSB, & UCD, I’d say you have a good shot. UCSD is apparently more competitive for admission, & I believe even though they are a “Science-focused” campus, Lit/Writing is an impacted major & I was still admitted.

Good luck to you! - C

Majority of the UC campuses have closed Winter application cycle due to budget cuts. It’s not too late to consult your CCC advisor about Transfer Admission Guarantee for UCD, UCI, UCSB. UCLA transfer admit rate for English was around 45% last year with an average admitted GPA of 3.64.
