English professor demanding a strange method of writing essays

Freshman here, Ok so first big essay of the semester here and my professor has been guiding us through the first few paragraphs to ensure we know how to write. The topic is our biggest problems in english and how we will overcome them but instead of having that in the first paragraph she wants our thesis statement in the third. The first and second are introductory paragraphs that seem to have nothing to do with the topic (1st who we are and why we picked our major, 2nd why we enrolled into our particular school.) Anybody had or has a similar assignment that can clarify why the need for introductory paragraphs that don't include your thesis?

English professor here. It could be that your professor is asking for an introduction to you as a person, and it’s not really supposed to be an essay. Perhaps future assignments will be more conventional.

If you get a different vibe, then I agree this sounds weird.

Before you do anything drastic, just ask the professor what’s going on.

If you are confused about an assignment, the most effective solution is usually to ask the instructor who assigned the assignment for clarification.
