English/writing @ Bucknell

My D is seriously considering Bucknell and SouthJerseyChessMom has gone out of her way to give me a lot of info to help with my D’s decision.
I know Bucknell is very strong in Engineering and Bio, but my D will most likely major in English or a related field. Can anyone tell me how stong/good the English program is at Bucknell?
She is also considering Hamilton which has a very good English/writing program but the long, cold winters in upstate NY are starting to scare her.

Thanks for any info.

i will graduate this spring from bucknell without having taken an english course, something i already regret. so while i cant comment based on experience, i have heard wonderful things about the department. it is said to have one of the stronger poetry programs in the nation (i have no clue why) and alum philip roth has been active in bringing in fantastic people to the writer in-residence programs.

somewhat interestingly however, i can say that best class ive taken at bucknell was in the humanities. it was a '101' history course called 'varieties of history' taught by john kirkland. it challenged me more than any advanced mathematics course ive come across, including two graduate courses at penn state in mathematical logic and foundational mathematics (heavy stuff). if it was any indication of the overall strength of the history department and the humanities as a whole, your daughter will be in very good hands.

John Kirkland- legendary even "back in the day"...... ( late 70's)

I'll have to ask my son. He's a poli sci/philo major and placed out of English. I'll have to find out which departments his writing concentration classes were in. Probably philo.
