Yeah, TV is amazing for improving foreign language skills. It helped me learn German in my year over there. I think reading would be a better strategy for improving score on a written test though.

for the average SAT socres for non-English speakers, I think it is about 1100 or less, since the verbal section for non native is about 500.

I used to read a lot (before my hw amount went up like crazy!), but unfortunately I did not find that helpful. I rather believe in the old fashioned way where you just pick up a book with a bunch of SAT words on it, and memorize them! Of course, it helps if you learn the roots and all that to help you recognize a unfamiliar word.

im a native speaker, so my advice might be different, but having learned german i can give some info. if your not so advanced, start with the fairy tales and childrens books, swallow your pride and do it. its all about immersion, talk with english speaking friends, listen to music, espessially if you want to improve your fluidity, the biggest problem i had to overcome was using the words i knew in convorsation since i didnt get enough of it. read news papers, i cant stress this enough. check out the bbc because its well written and entertaining. if you find it funny or entertaining, you know youve achieved some level of fluency. watch movies. you got to be careful though, because its pretty colloquial, and may not be good for learning, or screw you over when it comes to learning, for thier are some turns of speech that are impossible to understand. for instance, brain storming, i would think that that would most certainly have to be explained.

Thank you everyone for lots of info!! To improve the writing skill, is reading the best option?

umm, sorta, to be honest, just keep a journal in english, i keep it in german, making sure youuse correct grammer and spelling and everything
