<p>what do people think about the english major at vandy? usually when people bust out top schools for English Vandy isn't on the list... but then one of my friends was saying it was a really strong dept.
usually i hear econ, pre med (and all the majors), and educational studies</p>
<p>The English department is excellent. Rankings may have other Vanderbilt departments higher but from personal expierence I'd say its among the best.</p>

<p>Vandy has that liberal arts feel in the a&s area that pretty much correlates with strong English.</p>

<p>good heavens. Look up The Fugitives and the Southern Agrarians. Read Robert Penn Warren and Peter Taylor. Vanderbilt also has killer excellent cultural arts guest speakers..authors, political figures, and tons of other public speakers. The top drawer Law School, the medical school and the div school alone bring in many writers and journalists. Doesn't hurt either that Nashville is crawling with fantastic classical, new age and bluegrass musicians and studios. Nashville is a town full of artistic personalities.</p>
<p>I think I read somewhere that their Comparative Lit was among the top in the country</p>
