Hi everyone i just got admission to sac state university (csu sacramento) to study ms mechanical engineering. anyone out there who went to this uni or studying at this uni should please give me a brief idea of what the uni is like and the engineering department as well. i live in london at the moment and i am to start my study in spring2008. many thanks.

I have a friend who went there for EE. Initially he started out at UC Davis, and was set to graduate within 3 years of admittance, but dropped out when he was offered a 6 figure programming job (this was early 90s). He eventually tired of the work and returned to school at "Sac State" (local vernacular) got his BS and is now a well respected employee, moving quickly through the ranks, at IBM there in Sac.

Generally the State Universities get dumped on by the UC system in California. However, having been born and raised 5 miles from Fresno state and going to UC Davis and then living in the bay area I can attest that they deliver great educations. Both my parents are Sac State grads and have done very well for themselves.

Personally, I think you will do fine at Sac State and find the college and academics well suited for a foreigner. Sacramento is a great little/big city and is close the SF Bay Area, Tahoe, and Reno for all the fun you can muster. If you are finding that you aren't being challenged enough consider trying to transfer to Cal Tech, UCDavis or, to stay at the state level, Cal State San Louis Obispo (Cal Poly), which has one of the best ME departments in the state.

Hope that helps. IMO, you'll have fun at Sac.

Many Thanks Jasper this realy helps really gratefull!
