Entering College as A Junior?

I know this is probably impossible but I want to know is it possible to enter a four year college as a Junior right out of high school? I have a plethora of APs (in every subject), a few IBs, and I will also have a General Studies associates degree from a local community college (using Dual Enrollment). So I want to know if I went to a school like a UC, NYU, or even a state school like Rutgers would I be eligible to enter as a Junior?

You may have junior standing by credits, but may not necessarily be able to graduate in two years if the AP tests and college courses taken during high school are not optimally chosen for that purpose in relation to your intended major and the college’s general education requirements.

At some colleges, higher class standing may affect registration order and priority for specific courses (not always favorably in the case of lower level courses that are important prerequisites for popular majors and which may have space reserved for frosh and soph students).

A month ago you were inquiring about Dartmouth College. You need to figure out what you want to do in college and not try and find the quickest way through.

That is not “tailored” at all. You cannot study law as an undergraduate.

My daughter is going to be a college freshman this year and between AP and dual credit courses, is starting with 30+ credits and sophomore standing. That said, at most she would be able to shave off a semester because of all the course requirements for her major. Most upperclassmen told her to just consider it a pass for general ed requirements and getting to take what she really is interested in, not graduating early. That said, it varies by school. In general, publics are more generous with accepting credit.

My kid will have 41.5 CC/DE semester units and depending on tomorrow will have around 35-40 semester units for AP. So with a university requirement of 120 units to graduate, one might think, ok bam Junior status and done in 1.5 years. But unfortunately that’s not how it works. I would say that 1/2 of the CC credits are only useful for GE credits and 2/3 of the AP credits are only useful for GE credits. Meaning that it will probably still take 3 years to graduate at a minimum. Maybe even more if he’s choosy about which classes to take and/or wants to double major.

If you want to save your parents some money, why look at the UCs as an OOS student?

If you want to transfer the most credits, you need to find schools that have direct transfer agreement wherever you are doing your AA degree. Even doing this, it depends on what classes you take and what your major is going to be on what exactly will transfer as what. If you are doing certain majors, the courses may be sequenced such that you may need to be there more than 2 years anyway.

You are not going to have great luck transferring boat loads of credits from a CC in Virginia to UC schools . If you really want to save money, start researching which in state schools will transfer the easiest and are generous with accepting AP’s, etc. Much cheaper to look at these schools for grad school.

Pre Law / Law, same difference lmao!

Thanks for the info, I have my heart set on OOS schools. Furthermore, I want to save my parents money (because, unlike many others - I have the opportunity to graduate debt free) I just don’t want to put a 120k burden on my parents. However, UCLA (any of the older UCs) offer great educations. That’s why I looked into it.

Well. there’s actually no such major as pre-law, nor are there any specific pre-requisite courses for entering law school. You can pursue one of the other ares of interest that you mentioned (or any other that intrigues you as you take college classes) and consider whether you are still interested in law school a few years down the line.

The UCs are fairly generous with AP credits, from what I can tell. I guess we’ll know more for sure in a few months. I’m not sure how much they’ll accept OOS CC credits, I know they’ll pretty much take anything in-state.

I have posted a similar thread, but didn’t get any answers pertaining to my specific question. I am a high school senior (upcoming), and I have a plethora of AP Credits (and IB), in every subject. In addition to these AP credits, I intend on graduation with an associates degree in general studies. If I am quite honest, I have no clue what I want to do in college (Although I have tailored it down to Biophysics, Marketing, Law, or Engineering / Design). But I do know all of the colleges I want to go to are 50/60k at least, and specifically the UC campuses, I know I wont get any aid - since I am from Virginia. So I want to know the best way to do this, because I would ideally like to use my AP and Associates to bypass my freshman and sophomore year not only to cut down on how long I will be in college for (5 year masters, becomes 3 years), but also to save my parents upwards of 120k. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Please do not post the same basic question twice. If you want to add details then keep it all on the same post. The two threads have been merged.
