Entertainment industry

FSU has one of the best film schools in the country, probably the second best in the eastern US after NYU. It's film school though is small and very, very difficult to get into. UCF has a good, and growing film program. It's location near Universal Studios can lead to some internships.

takeme2cali: If you want a more "elite" school (based on general academics)but also want to be involed in the entertainment industry (at least film and TV), then Wesleyan is definitley the place to check out. We are more theory based than say, NYU film (I would guess), but we still have a fair amount of practical work, and Wes Film graduates are a huge presence in both Hollywood and the Television industry.

tsdad: I see that your son goes to USC.Does he like it?what?s his major?could you share with us a little bit of his experience so far?
WESKID: Do you work for Wesleyan? If i?m not mistaken Wesleyan doesn?t offer business right?

Nope! Just a student who loves it.

We don't offer business, but we do offer a strong econ department...

My son is a second semester senior with a Critical Studies major in the School of Cinema Arts. He has a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. He likes USC well enough, but not the Trojan-for-life kind of liking. He liked his hip-hop professor. He is ambivalent about LA, but that's where the jobs are. He especially liked the nightlife in the city and going here: http://www.ucbtheatre.com/la/, and having access on campus to movies before they are released to the general public. He was politically active his first two years and he and his then girlfriend founded a organization for religious liberals/leftists.

He has developed a really large circle of friends including one who is his writing partner. He took part in an acting-comedy troop for two-years that was in part funded by the student government. He has had two really good internships in LA: one at www.participantproductions.com and the other at www.ri.org.

The summer between his first and second year he interned in DC at: http://www.storyhousepro.com/. The next summer he stayed in LA and was paid to be a production assistant on a film, which is just now being released. That gave him his first IMDB citation.

The internships are one of the main benefits of being in LA and being at USC.

yeah I got into USC with a big scholarship,
but I also got into Cornell and hopefully will get into Penn come thursday.
My current major is communication (broadcast journalist hopefully) but I've always had a love for the entertainment industry (more in front of the camera than behind the scenes stuff).
Yet, Cornell has a fashion program that I am also interested in. I just don't know what to do because this decision is huge and can really affect what I do later in life...
I feel like I'm not ready to make it yet.

please choose USC....when it comes to Entertainment USC eats cornell alive plus southern california is the place to be...
