The spacing mistake? Why wasn’t the ruler out before the test? It’s a management and leadership error. It’s their fault and forgive me if I don’t genuflect at their impending sainthood. The obligation is to make sure it’s correct beforehand and not be an idiot.
And duty to report a few inches? Ok if everyone slid the chairs up to cheat. But it seems like a uniform set up issue. And inches. Really.
Did they wander the halls and wait for an opportunity to measure or drive in specially with a CB tape measure.
We’ve all had tests with even higher stakes and they are set up in stadium style. Never has it been five feet in between.
Doesn’t matter. The seats were 4 ft 10 inches instead of 4 ft 12 inches between desks, I stand by my viewpoint of the principal’s decision making and big picture faculties.
I remember the incident with the invalidated AP scores. It happened to be son’s high school. The rumor was that a disgruntled parent (whose kid was caught cheating on an AP Physics midterm) apparently notified College Board. And coincidentally 2 of the tests invalidated were AP Physics 1/2.
It’s all in the past. But I feel for the OP. And these other kids. They aren’t made of Teflon and perhaps that was their best day.
But get back up and dust off and all. But just feel pissed at adults with limited responsibilities to get these things right.
Knowing what test you’re proctoring, being able to read the instruction key and setting up the room to be compliant ( even for exacting measurement standards demanded by Principal Precision)
This is not a moon landing folks.
Embarrassing level of unprofessionalism- when all you’re looking for is basic, modest adult level competence as a measure.
Ouch! I hope @bluebayou regrets that low blow. I resent the snark on behalf of efucators everywhere.
Teachers have so much hard work and disrespect heaped upon them. The actions of the proctor in this story are outrageous. No need to tar anyone else with that brush.
I feel your pain. Horrible. Just horrible. My son took the June 1 SAT too (only a sophomore though) and one of the reasons I wanted him to take it in June rather than August is because he just finished Algebra II/Trig so all of his math is fresh in his mind. Students really can get a little rusty over the summer. I’m so sorry this happened.
There is no indication that the confused proctor was even a teacher. Based on what has been mentioned here by the OP, I’d venture she is not. So, doubly so that the bash on teachers was unwarranted.
I do not believe my D’s proctor is a teacher. Not sure if she taught in the past but at this time I don’t believe she is. Daughter is doing much better after a couple of days. Took her to the eye doctor on Monday and they couldn’t fix her broken glasses so had to get her new frames. She was able to find ones similar to what she had so that was good. She also found out on Monday she didn’t get section leader for her Cello section in orchestra so that should be the final bad news for her. It was just a bad and stressful weekend but she is doing much better now.
We discussed last night about doing the visit to her OOS option and she looked at the virtual tour and wants to go so we are getting that scheduled. As for an alternate major, I don’t think she wants to do that especially knowing that we do have OOS options that we can afford and that she can get into. Sure it would be nice if she could stay 1 hour away from home and instate but being 7.5 hours away OOS wouldn’t be bad for her either, especially with the program being a very high ranking one. I went 10.5 hours away to school where I didn’t know a single person and survived so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if that is what she has to do.
I appreciate the comments and advice. I’ll update once I know what College Board says about a make up and if there is an alternate date or if it is just a free seat at the August exam. Still waiting to hear on that one.
Look at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My niece is going there for that major, and the out of state cost is not that different from the in state cost.
My S said the girl behind him was crying the entire time throughout the SAT Subjects and then we kinda chuckled since he said she went to the Magnet school. I do believe he had some informative words for her after the exam since she was parked right next to him.
My D had someone sleeping/snoring right next to her during her PSAT.
No tests were invalidated and looking back we kinda chuckle at these things and how crazy our HS’s are.
For those wondering, today we were notified that my daughter does have a make up test for this Saturday. However, it is not the location 45 minutes away. They are actually having the test at her high school where she’s more comfortable. Her friend that was also in her class received the same notice today so we are very happy that she and the rest of them get to do the make up while they are still fairly fresh on the material. She leaves the next day to go to summer camp so this is the best result we could have hoped for out of the situation.
For those students who cannot do this Saturday make up they are offering a transfer to another center on a future date but I don’t know if that just means the August test. We also received her updated GPA and she raised it from a 3.76 to a 3.82 so some good news after a weekend of bad news.
You said your daughter usually scores higher on the test center tests. Is she using the same type of pencil at both sites? There is a long discussion on the LSAT forum about the superiority of Dixon Ticoonderoga pencils. Many prefer the black version.
