Envelope or Email?

I was checking my email today when a weird thought hit me... in less than two weeks, I will receive a message from the Dartmouth admissions office entitled "ED Decision," or something like that. I can even picture it in my blue inbox. And then I was thinking, well do I really want to see the news online? It would be such an anticlimax after all the hard work I put into my application- just a few paragraphs I can't even hold in my hand or frame. (Of course, it would be more exciting if a whole bunch of other people were checking with me in the chatroom, hehe). I know if I got deferred I would kind of just stare at the screen blankly, maybe refresh it once or twice, and then turn off the computer and go to bed. It's so sad.

I mean, isn't the envelope so much more satisfying? I guess if it were thin I'd be pretty mad, but imagine ripping open the FedEx and finding that thick, creamy letter with the Dartmouth seal and wowzers- REAL signature from Kurt Whats-his-face so you could scream and hold it up and pore over it. Maybe I'll wait for the envelope...

Okay, who am I kidding. I just had to get that out though. See, this is what happens when you give someone a lot of time between November and mid-December. Ah the constant struggle between impatience and atmosphere...

Trust me, you will hold out for all of 5 seconds after you see that email in your inbox. That's what happened to me last year when I got my EA decision.

I've told myself I'm waiting in April for the real thing. I even checked off the Harvard box to only send a real piece of mail. We'll see how long I last.
