Environmental Journalism?

If I want to pursue a career in environmental journalism, what would be the best college major and minor to study? Considering I'm against animal experimentation and dissection, and can't bring myself to participate in any of that? Being an Indian national, if I'd like to work in the United States or in other places outside India, would it be best for me to get my undergraduate degree outside India as well?

Talk about specific… The only plaxe you’ll find work is at an NPO or the science column of a newspaper.

Most schools in the US have small env sci programs- and sadly I’ve never heard of enviro journalism yet. You can try a Google search, but I advise you broaden your studies.

I don’t have time to post more right now (plus I don’t have direct experience with this occupation), but here is a link I found - [Society of Environmental Journalists: Careers in Environmental Journalism](Society of Environmental Journalists: Careers in Environmental Journalism)

The best major would be environmental science. You’ll need the science background if you want to be a credible reporter on environmental issues. Environmental science is an applied and interdisciplinary field, which will expose you to the several science fields relevant to the analysis, prevention, and remediation of environmental problems.

For a minor, choose among economics, agricultural & resource economics (which often includes relevant courses in environmental law and policy, too), political science, or, possibly, international relations (if you have an interest in international environmental issues).

Many of the science and environmental journalism programs are offered as a graduate programs. You might consider studying at a public land grant university which has a college of agriculture and natural resources. Many of the most interesting and innovative environmental studies programs are located at such colleges. In addition, some of them offer a program in what was formerly referred to as agricultural journalism. The focus of such programs has broadened at some school (e.g., Wisconsin) so that they now address environmental or science issues. As a student in an ag school, your general ed requirements would include some of the basic science courses that are prerequisite to environmental science, so it might be easier to accommodate a double major or major/minor program in your areas of interest.

Check out Warren Wilson’s environmental studies program, they have a concentration in Journalism/Writing field of enviro sciences!! Super cool school too
