I am currently an Environmental Science Major (Not very far into my classes) I was considering switching to Geography/Environmental Studies because I want to know more about the human aspect. I was originally going to Major in Environmental Science then minor in sustainability. Now I’m wondering if I should double minor in Environmental Science/ Sustainability then have my major be Geography. I’m not sure the exact work I would like to do. Ensuring people are following the codes and whatnot is a popular job with either major but I’ve also been considering policy making. I am also pretty business savvy and love the animal aspect (so biology). I’m having a hard time zeroing in on what combination of things I should do. I’m open to any suggestion and can be flexible. Thanks!
I would major in what you are most interested in studying and not focus so much on matching it exactly to a specific career. During college, do some internships, jobs or volunteering to help clarify career goals but it is fine to study what you really want to study, regardless of career outcome.
Well, what are you most interested in? The human interaction with the environment (which is the environmental studies/human geography side) or the actual science of the environment itself (environmental science)? What your answer is to that should determine your major.
It’s also likely possible to do both. You don’t need to declare a minor, but you could - for example - major in environmental science and then take a good selection of what the classes for an environmental studies majors would be anyway (mostly social science classes, I would assume).
